My assessment of today's Spurs / Nuggets Thurs?
OK, I'm not saying that the Spurs are not a legitimate pretender. But I do not worry them. I saw many similarities between the Spurs of today and the mid-2000s dominated the Spurs: 1. Duncan is a beast in the paint on both ends of the floor. 2. Parker is an offensive spark in the first three quarters. 3. Ginobili is a cold-blooded assassin in the fourth quarter, especially Crunchtime. 4. The Spurs got some big threes and spot to bounce the rest of the guys. However, following the main difference to me: The Spurs do not advocate locking Bruce Bowen. Richard Jefferson is an excellent player, but do not hold a candle to Bowen defensively. Ginobili saved the game when he called the charge of Carmelo at the end. But Bowen would never let Anthony get in scoring position. In the playoffs, with guys like Kobe Bryant you look down, that could be a major problem.
Jefferson is not the kind of defender that Bowen was, but it is much more versatile offensive at the end of the floor. Bowen could hit a 3-pointer from the corner, and that was about all his offense. Jefferson can hit from outside, but it is also able to drive on the road and Design of a fault or get an easy shot. Therefore Spurs have changed their whole philosophy. They no longer rely on a great defense and attack, just enough to win. This year, they run and scoring much.
