Frosting perishability?
I'm planning on making a cake in a jar and shipping it a few hours away. I'm not worried about the cake part, but if I use buttercream frosting should I be concerned about it going bad? Cakes have sat on my counter for that long without problems but I thought I should ask.
It will be okay for a few days at room temperature. Any longer than 4 days I don't think it will be good. The temps now are not as warm as summertime (in most areas anyway) otherwise I would think this wouldn't be a good idea. The sugar, by the way, in the frosting keeps the other ingredients from going bad as quickly.
