
How much canning salt do I add to each liter jar of vegetable soup base?
My hubby and I are new to canning and we are going to can some vegetable soup base tonight. My recipe says to add salt to taste to the batch. But my husband was told to add 1 Tablespoon salt intot the bottom of each jar before filling. He said his grandparents used to add their salt on top. Now, I just read that it can explode when adding salt into the jar when canning some foods. Is this true? And is 1 Tablespoon too much? It just seems like a lot of salt. THANKS!
